About Us

In 1930, Charles Hyde and David Vredenburg opened a small general store in Beaconsfield, Iowa. That store grew to become Hy-Vee – a company known for excellent service and low prices. As an employee-owned company, Hy-Vee encourages each of our more than 51,000 employees to help guide the company.

Our outstanding success demonstrates their hard work and clear vision. Through their efforts, the name Hy-Vee has become synonymous with quality products, low prices and superior customer service. Our slogan, "A Helpful Smile In Every Aisle," expresses the foundation of our corporate philosophy.

The Asbury Plaza Hy-Vee store was proudly opened on Feb. 14, 2000. With the leadership of our store director Chuck Donnelly, we continue to strive and grow to new levels each year. In order to bring our customers the best service and most convenient shopping experience we have expanded over the past eight years to include a 24-pump fueling station; baby land; a Club Room with full kitchen offering lifestyle classes; a wine and spirits store with walk-in beer vault and thousands of wine and spirits choices; Starbucks coffee shop; In-store registered dietitian and continuous updating of every area of the store.

Every day our Asbury Plaza Hy-Vee employees strive to follow the basic Hy-Vee fundamentals and take pride in giving our customers a great shopping experience.

Asbury Plaza is dedicated to serving our community in which we live not only by providing the BEST service at the store but in our community as well.

We are business partners with seven different schools providing mentoring, nutritional seminars, tours and reading to classrooms.
We host a FREE Kids' Fishing Derby providing a fun-filled family day.
We allow our managers to dedicate part of their day to help charitable organizations like Junior Achievement, American Heart Association, JDRF, American Red Cross, etc.

Hy-Vee is dedicated to helping charitable non-profit organizations in our community through donations & services.

Hy-Vee provides script(gift certificates at a discount) to over 58 churches and schools.
Each year Hy-Vee donates to benefits, special events, schools, churches, sporting events and more.
Hy-Vee allows non-profit organizations to sell fund raiser books generating funds for the organization.
